VERY SHORT video.

Friday, July 29, 2011 § 0

YES, I know that I am addicted to making videos.  But who knew it could be such fun?

This is a teensy-tiny one from our trip to Galveston last weekend.  I just absolutely love that city.

ALSO- I am not strangely morbid, the clip of the cemetery in the vid is because I thought the cemetery was kind of gorgeous.  Well, as gorgeous as a cemetery could possibly be.

(you may need to let it load for a second, otherwise that shrimp taunts you for five seconds in the beginning :) )

p.s.: I love The Beach Boys.

Galveston.

BEACH!

Cool church....

The Tremont, where we almost stayed...

The big cement trumpet in the middle of downtown...

My mom agrees, La King's Confectionary is one of the most magical places on Earth.

Peanut butter ice cream.

Yeah, I'm enjoying it.

I love Galveston.

sweater haul: and it's a summer photo shoot?

Thursday, July 21, 2011 § 0

Yes, I know that it is the middle of July.  And yes, I know that it is 100+ degrees outside.  I still went to Goodwill today and bought 4 cozy sweaters to prepare myself for Colorado.

I've been freaking out about going lately, so I've been trying to find things that will get me excited about my freshman year.  Who wouldn't get excited about secondhand, oversized knit sweaters?

I had a jolt of inspiration after watching the Proposal- in one scene, Sandra Bullock wears this hilarious chunky blue dog sweater that's Grandma Annie's but it looked so warm and nice.  I wanted some cozy sweaters to wear when lying around my dorm, just like Grandma Annie's stash :)

And, to make it fun, my sister styled me up (she is a fashion merchandising student, after all) and gave me a photo shoot with my new sweaters to boot.  ENJOY!

Sweater #1- Purple cable-knit

I snagged these gray yoga pants at Wal-mart for five bucks.  This sweater is so long, so I can pull off the leggings without looking trashy!

Sweater #2- Navy blue Men's J. Crew Sweater (and yet still $4!)

Sweater #3- Gray button down Gap sweater

Sweater #4- St. John's Bay gray sweater

I think I snagged some pretty great sweaters.

I also think I had way too much fun during this photo shoot.

Till next time,

a crafty evening.

Today a good friend of mine sent me a link to a crafting website, which made me go crazy with ideas.  (By the way, this is the website)

Not only did it lead me to the tutorial on the post under this one, but it also led me to a tutorial on how to make friendship bracelets.  I've already gotten my thread and am halfway into the construction of one bracelet- there's no turning back now.  My hands are cramping, my back is sore, but I'M ADDICTED AND I CAN'T STOP. If you'd like to enter into a similar hell (kidding, it's fun), then read on.

(some examples of what you'll be making)

First, get your thread.  At Michael's, they have tons of colors for the low, low price of 35 cents.  It's a steal!  I went crazy, but the tutorial only calls for about 5-6 different colors, so I chose a beachy theme of blues, ivory, and a yellowish tone to get me excited for our Galveston adventure this weekend.

You'll also need the following:
A piece of tape to tape down the end of your bracelet as you thread your pattern

A fan for when your hands get weirdly sweaty

Music to distract you from how sore your hands are getting

Patience.  Something I have little of.

But pretty soon your bracelet will start to come together and it'll be totally worth it!

Here's the steps you'll need to make the actual bracelet:

Happy braiding, Godspeed, and good luck!

How to get adorable vintage curls without using heat, you may ask? Well, here's a fantastic tutorial.

This is fantastic.

my life, at 12:10 a.m., on a sunday night, in july.

You know, just in case I look back in 30 years and ask myself, 'I wonder what 18-year-old me was doing in July!' Because I'll most likely be doing that a lot.

Well, first of all, I've been obsessed with Chuck lately.  The show, not the name, or the person (I don't know anyone named Chuck...I think)

It's pretty hilarious.  I'm going to be honest, it took me a while to get into it, but by the second season, I was hooked.

Second of all, we're going to Galveston pretty soon for our annual 'girl's weekend' and I could not be more excited.

The beach may not have the clearest water, but I love the atmosphere of Galveston.  It's the cutest beach town with so much history.  I can't wait to go again.

Thirdly (thirdly? Is that a word?), I think I may have decided to get a tattoo.  NOT NOW, of course- I'm going to be mature about it and wait a year to make sure it's what I really want.

PLUS, it'll be after my first year of college and I think I'll need a reward for getting that over with!

Here's my thought:
Daisies.  My absolute favorite flower and something that just oozes happiness.

I do want something that means something to me, though, so I'll see if I can weave some family ties into it somehow.  I've got a whole year to figure it out :)

Au revoir,
Cooper

it's already mid-july.

Can we please start this summer all over again? It's winding down too fast.

you can only guess what I did last night.

"Of course it is happening in your head, Harry, but why on Earth should that mean it is not real?"

the simple girl's guide to denim on denim.

Monday, July 11, 2011 § 0

I know, I know, taking on the fashion challenge can seem a little daunting.  After all, you don't want to end up looking like a denim monster or like something that popped out of the '90s.

I personally love denim on denim, because it's ever so comfortable and, when worn right, is perfect casual-chic.  Here's a few tips to keep you looking fresh and awesome:

1. Wear different shades of denim together.

A lot of times I'll see models in magazines try the same shade together, but they're models- they can pretty much pull off anything.  I tend to stray from shades that are too similar and put colors together that are completely different.

Add a fun necklace for some color dimension, like this white necklace from Delia's.

I never thought I'd do it, but I end up wearing this hat EVERYWHERE I go. It's become a summer staple.

2. Get a pair of black jeans- they work with practically anything.

 3. A light-colored denim shirt is good for summer and mixing and matching.

I love wearing my denim shirt over my shorts, since it has the feel of big and loose over short and tight.  Add a pair of brown wedges and a hat and you're golden, Ponyboy.

Just remember to be CONFIDENT when wearing denim on denim, otherwise you might not be able to pull it off.  It's a fun look and I recommend it to anyone who's looking for a simple blast of chic in their wardrobe.

Until tomorrow,
Cooper
